TLC for LED® Retrofit Solves Lighting Problems for U.S. Naval Academy
The Challenge
The U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) boasts a vast array of facilities for its football, soccer and lacrosse teams, as well as intramural and physical education programs. In 2014, USNA decided to upgrade Glen Warner Soccer Stadium and nine recreation fields with LED lighting from a Musco competitor. However, after experiencing problems with unreliable controls and excessive spill light, USNA determined that it was necessary to remove the competitor’s LED lights and replace them with a system that offered more dependable operation and superior light control. Navy Marine Corp Football Stadium and Forrest Sherman Field were also earmarked for lighting upgrades.
The Solution
USNA was aware of Musco’s LED technology and considered it for their original installation in 2014 but instead opted for the competitor’s less expensive lights. When a replacement was needed, USNA turned to Musco to retrofit its TLC for LED® system at all 10 fields. Musco’s superior light control technology achieves appropriate light levels across each field, while the patented fixture visoring prevents spill light from trespassing onto the nearby Severn River. The ease of installation and convenience of remote smartphone operation through Control-Link® led USNA to retrofit at Navy Marine Corp Stadium with a TLC for LED system and color-changing RGBW technology, increasing light levels to national broadcast standards and energizing game nights with Show-Light® special effects. Later, USNA also improved visibility at Sherman Field with another TLC for LED retrofit.
