The Challenge
With limited field space and a softball team that hadn’t played on school grounds since the 1970s, Grand Island Central School District (CSD) dedicated a portion of its $24 million capital improvement project toward building a multi-sport complex that would bring Grand Island High School games back to campus. The complex’s softball and baseball fields sit diagonally across from each other, and their outfield fences can be removed to create a full-size multipurpose field for football, soccer, and lacrosse. To best complement the facility’s unique design—and enable nighttime use—the district needed an advanced LED lighting system that would achieve adequate light levels across the entire playing surface, provide flexibility to light individual fields, and offer trouble-free operation.
The Solution
Project leaders worked with Musco on other lighting projects in the past and were confident the company could help accomplish their lighting goals. Thanks to the availability of a cooperative purchasing contract that satisfied the public bid requirements, Grand Island CSD once again partnered with Musco to install its Total Light Control – TLC for LED™ technology. The system achieves desirable light levels across the entire playing surface for optimal visibility for each sport, while minimizing glare or spill with patented light control technology. To provide peace of mind for facility staff, the Control-Link® service enables easy operation of the lights via smartphone, the Control-Link website, or fully staffed call center 24/7/365. Musco’s parts and labor warranty eliminates maintenance costs until the year 2045.
