St. Vrain Satisfies New Boulder County Lighting Regulations with Musco’s Highly Controlled LED Sports Lighting Technology
The Challenge
St. Vrain Valley School District (SVVSD) in Longmont, Colorado, determined the near twenty-year-old lighting system at Everly-Montgomery Field was due for an upgrade. The stadium hosts several sports for four of the district’s high schools, and with the facility frequently used at night, SVVSD needed to ensure it complied with new Boulder County lighting regulations—which require systems to include light control capabilities to prevent the stadium’s lights from reaching nearby roads or residences. Additionally, to qualify for an energy efficiency rebate on its lighting project through the local Efficiency Works program, the district needed an LED sports lighting solution that would significantly reduce energy consumption.
The Solution
Project leaders researched the capabilities of newer LED systems and determined Musco’s Total Light Control – TLC for LED® technology was the superior solution. Musco’s TLC for LED system was retrofitted onto existing poles, and the district included Musco’s Show-Light® entertainment package for additional excitement on game nights. The system’s patented fixture visoring and light control technology eliminates glare and prevents light from spilling past the facility’s property line. With energy consumption reduced by 60 percent compared to the previous HID system, and additional energy savings from the Control-Link® control system’s prescheduling capabilities, SVVSD secured a rebate of over $30,000. To top it off, the district gained Musco’s parts and labor warranty, which eliminates maintenance costs through the year 2045.
The Musco Lighting system was very easy to install and went together quickly. All the fixture heads were numbered, pre aimed and bolted on to the crossarms.
The wire harnesses were numbered and plug together. Tech support and site support from Musco was easy to access. Musco had a field tech on site for the first day to assist with the install of the system and answer any questions.
