Daphne, Alabama, Achieves 20-Year Goal of State-of-the-Art Lighting at City Parks
The Challenge
City leaders in Daphne, Alabama, had been planning and preparing to build a premier sports complex in their community for nearly 20 years. When plans finally came together to not only construct Daphne Sports Complex—which features 10 baseball/softball fields—but to also add 10 new tennis courts and six pickleball courts to W.O. Lott Park, officials decided to outfit both facilities with high-quality lighting. At each location, leaders wanted to ensure the best possible lighting for community members with an LED system that would create superior visibility, be easy to operate, and prevent glare and spill light from affecting neighbors and drivers on nearby roads.
The Solution
The city conducted extensive research into lighting options from various manufacturers, and ultimately chose to partner with Musco—which it had worked with before—and have Total Light Control – TLC for LED™ systems installed at both facilities. Playability is enhanced with the system’s ability to direct more uniform light onto the fields and courts and, as a result of the patented light control technology, light is contained within the facilities. Daphne also gained Musco’s Control-Link® controls and monitoring system, allowing the lights to be managed from anywhere, instantly, with the touch of a smartphone.
