Bishop Kelly High School Utilizes Musco’s Light Control Technology to Gain Neighbors’ Approval for New Stadium Lighting

The Challenge

When Bishop Kelly High School received funding to perform long-awaited renovations at Nick Ysursa Field, project leaders wanted to use the opportunity to enhance game nights for its soccer and lacrosse programs. A portion of the project was dedicated to upgrading the field lighting system so athletes, fans, and visiting teams would enjoy a better overall experience with improved visibility. A new system would need to be approved by neighbors living atop the hill to the south of the stadium, so it was important that a lighting provider work closely with them to produce a solution that would satisfy their desire for advanced light control.

The Solution

Project leaders conducted extensive research into a solution that could improve visibility without negatively impacting neighbors. After learning about the company’s superior light control capabilities, the school opted for Musco’s Total Light Control – TLC for LED™ technology. The system’s custom optics and precise light application produce greater on-field light levels to enhance visibility for players and provide a better overall viewing experience for fans. Musco fulfilled neighbors’ request for poles no taller than 60 feet and equipped the system with its patented glare control technology to ensure light would not trespass beyond the stadium’s property line. For additional assurance, Bishop Kelly gained Musco’s extensive warranty and won’t pay any maintenance costs through the year 2044.

Musco was a true partner, providing real time layouts and diagrams to assure the adjacent neighborhood and city plan reviewers this project would be great for the school and have no impact to surrounding properties.
