loanDepot park Becomes First MLB Stadium in the U.S. with Color-Changing LED Sports Lighting

The Challenge

Opened in 2012, loanDepot park is home to the Miami Marlins Major League Baseball (MLB) club. Although the Marlins were satisfied with the performance of their metal halide sports lighting, they were excited by the possibility of enhancing their fan experience with the theatrical effects offered by new LED technology. The Marlins needed an LED sports lighting manufacturer that could not only provide color-changing fixtures and DMX controls, but also complete installation of the new lights on a tight timeline to ensure loanDepot park was ready for the 2022 MLB season.

The Solution

The Marlins had used Musco’s metal halide lighting since opening loanDepot park in 2012 and trusted the company’s dedicated service. They called on Musco to complete a turnkey retrofit of a TLC for LED® system that made loanDepot park the first MLB stadium in the U.S. with color-changing RGBW lighting. The project was completed in just eight weeks from start to finish, and the system maintains MLB light levels while also allowing the Marlins to illuminate the stadium in various colors for special events, such as red to match the team’s Legacy uniforms. Individual fixtures can be synced to music with the Show-Light+® entertainment package to create captivating light shows, and Musco’s long-term warranty covers every part and all labor on the system until 2037.pp

One experience that was really surprising to me came as I was walking the concourse before the game started. Usually, the people there are just milling around, but all of a sudden the lights dimmed—people looked around and they all went to the edge of the seating bowl to see what was going on. Right then, I knew this was the right decision for us.
