Seddon Park’s Boutique Cricket Ground is Broadcast-Ready Following Musco TLC for LED® Upgrade

The Challenge

Ringed by a carefully manicured lawn and tree-lined grassy banks, Seddon Park is recognized as one of the world’s best boutique cricket grounds, a style of venue distinguished from larger stadium environments by grassy banks and a picnic-type spectator experience. The picturesque park has been in constant use since 1914 and recently underwent major renovations in preparation for the Women’s Cricket World Cup, which was covered live by broadcasters around the world in 2022. As part of the renovations, the facilities team needed to replace the stadium’s existing high-intensity discharge (HID) lighting system with an upgraded system that could meet broadcast requirements and comply with stringent lighting standards established by the International Cricket Council.

The Solution

Faced with the challenge of providing uniform lighting on such a large, oval-shaped area—without creating spill and glare for players, neighbors, or a capacity crowd of more than 10,000 fans—the team at Seddon Park chose Musco. Musco’s SportsCluster® system, featuring TLC for LED® technology, was custom-mounted on four poles evenly placed around the park’s perimeter, providing clean, even lighting throughout the grounds. Fans enjoy a wide variety of special lighting effects—for example, brilliant spotlights that originate in the center of the field and radiate outward—and light shows synchronized to music. Musco’s Control-Link® technology allows facility operators to proactively monitor system performance, as well as to set pre-scheduled hours of operation, which helps staff to predict and reduce energy costs. The result is a historic facility that is both boutique and broadcast-ready.
