Berthoud High School Meets Strict Lighting Standards at Local Stadium with Musco Technology

The Challenge

Thompson School District (TSD) in Berthoud, Colorado, was installing new field turf at Berthoud High School’s Max Marr Stadium, and in addition to that upgrade district leaders also decided to install new field lighting. Berthoud strives to comply with the International Dark-Sky Association’s (IDA) recommendations for responsible lighting and the town has rigid standards in place to mitigate light pollution. Any new lighting would have to adhere to these elevated expectations and prevent sky glow, spill light, and glare from negatively affecting the areas around the stadium.

The Solution

Having worked with Musco in the past, TSD was well aware of the company’s advanced light control and glare reduction capabilities. After researching Musco’s Total Light Control – TLC for LED™ technology, TSD’s project leaders knew it was the superior solution and the best fit for their project at Max Marr Stadium. The system’s patented fixture visoring and light control technology accomplishes clean, even illumination that meets the school’s standards for responsible lighting, while Musco’s Control-Link® monitoring service simplifies operation and management of the lights for facility staff. Additionally, Musco’s parts and labor warranty guarantees the system’s performance and ensures Berthoud won’t pay any maintenance costs through the year 2046.

We had a great experience working with Musco for our turnkey project. Edwin from Musco listened to our challenges and did some research and gave us a cost effective proposal. Our community has been thrilled with how the project turned out. Our Rep, Edwin has followed up with tests to make sure their product has performed at the level they promised. Between the service we’ve been provided as well as the quality of the equipment, it makes it an easy decision if you are thinking about upgrading to an LED package.
