X Games Aspen Lit for Ultimate Safety and Style
X Games Aspen is one of the world’s best-known and most-watched events in winter action sports. With energetic crowds and elite competition in unpredictable winter conditions, the event needs state-of-the-art temporary and mobile lighting solutions that deliver maximum safety and style.
20 Years of Extreme Entertainment
Musco has been a trusted lighting provider to X Games Aspen since 2004, helping to create an optimal environment for some of the world’s top skiers, snowboarders, and snowmobilers as they showcase mind-blowing, never-before-seen tricks on a global stage.
Custom-Designed for Power and Precision
For the X Games Aspen 2024, Musco lit the 350-foot-long Big Air course, the Knuckle Huck area, and the 650-foot SuperPipe. As adverse weather conditions reduced the installation window from nine days to seven, Musco’s technical expertise, adaptability, and experience were key to a successful setup on the slopes:
- More than 170 TLC for LED® fixtures were mounted on scaffolds and truss towers.
- Every fixture was manually aimed to eliminate shadows, minimize glare, and deliver the right amount of light for broadcast.
- Musco’s mobile truck, Musco Light™, was hauled in by snowcat to provide uniform illumination for the Big Air landing area and the rollover (knuckle) for the Knuckle Huck.
Glued to the Screen
With its steep walls, staggering size, and athletes throwing tricks as high as four stories above the flatbottom, they call it the SuperPipe for a reason. Musco’s field team coordinated with the ESPN broadcast crew to wash the entire pipe in custom colors and send lights chasing down the length of the tube. These entertainment features pumped up the crowd after commercial breaks, before new riders dropped into the course, and during other big moments in the action.
