Pohang Steel Yard Conserves Energy and Enhances the Fan Experience with Musco’s TLC for LED® Stadium Lighting
The Challenge
Pohang Steel Yard is home to the Pohang Steelers, a professional football club that competes in South Korea’s K League 1. The stadium brings fans closer to the action than any other K League venue, with only 4 meters separating the pitch from the first row of seating. When the stadium’s lighting system reached the end of its warranty, Club leaders saw an opportunity to upgrade with LED technology that would conserve energy, improve visibility for players, and enhance the fan experience.
The Solution
The Steelers had been satisfied with the quality and reliability of their metal halide lighting system from Musco, as well as the service they’d received during the lifespan of a comprehensive parts and labor warranty. These positive experiences made the Steelers feel confident about their decision to partner with Musco on their upgrade to LED technology. Musco’s unique system design, extensive project management experience, and factory pre-aimed luminaires allowed workers to remove the previous equipment and install a new TLC for LED® lighting system in less than 15 days without disturbing the natural grass pitch. The new system provides greater visibility for players and exceeds competition lighting standards – with average on-pitch light levels of more than 2,500 lux – while reducing energy consumption by 25 percent. The system also includes a Show-Light® Connect special effects interface, allowing the facility team to dim the stadium lights and use a wide variety of entertainment features during night games, concerts, and other events. Like their previous Musco lighting, the system is covered by a 10-year parts and labor warranty.
Compared to last year … I could see the players much better inside the stadium, and it felt like a daytime game. My eyes were much more comfortable during the practice game.
